The first time that I learned about Josephine Baker was when Lynn Whitfield played her in the biopic film The Josephine Baker Story.

Honey I loved that film.

That was me.

I wanted to run away to Paris and become that star.

Leave all the foolishness behind and find the world waiting for me.

But what I learned and Ms. Baker soon found out is that you can’t run from yourself.

If you can’t pay your bills in St. Louis, you sure as hell aint gone be able to pay those bills for that chateau.

No matter how much they “loved” her, they sure kicked her out when she didn’t have those coins.

All jokes aside.

It’s one of her historic performances and it shows why Josephine is still an Icon.

Watching her makes me so proud.

This was a woman who made her life.

It didn’t make her.
